A Taste

A taste for the good things in life

a hunger for happiness

a yen for yearning

a penchant for pleasure

a itch for indulgence

 a sense for satisfaction

 and education about enjoyment

let the wise words of the sages

curry favour with your own conscience and common sense

until you can brew a good strong cup of bliss

breathe deeply the aroma of gratitude

for this life

 brief and uncertain

beset on all sides and undermined from within

taste and chew through this dis-ease until it becomes like the crust on the bread a welcomed texture to keep the bowels strong

our hearts light and heads clear

this only worthwhile wish

and inheritance from our deepest reason for being

and then share it like santa claus like the easter bunny like johhny appleseed

like the pied piper well anyway you get the idea

We are what we love not what loves us I decided that a long time ago

Dear Da

I was glad to hear

you are planning to live to 90

I would like to have you around at least that long

I know you can't stay forever

Still I am happy to think

that you want to go on living

even as the body winds down

It did give me a moments pause

I thought is it just for a few more chess games

or what?

Then it occurred to me deep down

Da you are someone who loves life

whatever caveats you may invoke from time to time

You are a true bon vivant

perhaps even accused of grasshopper leanings

yet as steady as the ant you followed your bliss

and more often than not you found it

perhaps to readily in drink or arguementation

but those were perhaps masks

to protect the childlike

curiosity and playfulness

you liked what you liked and stood by it

with a certainty which most loose to rationalizations of experts or fashion

So I am happy to have basked in your grandfatherly glow

you taught me much

of wonder and heroism

so a shy day dreaming grandson

would receive his secret inheritance

and pass it on to his grandsons some day

sitting on an old couch book on his lap and listening deeply to your voice knowing it to be deep and warm and comforting

like Gandalf's or Robinhood's or Merlin's

Strong and wise and loving

Paraphrasing a lecture by Bob Thurman

Buddhas great realization was not that there is suffering

any idiot can realize this by banging his head against the wall

What the Buddhas scientific research into the true nature of reality uncovered is

that true reality is bliss/nirvana because it is uncompounded and all pervasive inseparable from our true nature and it is just a matter of unlearning our habit of being bummed out and dissatisfied because we mistakingly think we are limited to our constituent impermanent parts

labeled as me.

 capiche?
